The metal core covered by the coating in the electrode is called the welding core. The core is generally a steel wire with a certain length and diameter. During welding, the welding core has two functions: one is to conduct the welding current and generate an arc to convert electrical energy into heat energy; the other is to melt the welding core itself as a filler metal and fuse with the liquid base metal to form a weld.

When the electrode is welded, the core metal accounts for a part of the entire weld metal. Therefore, the chemical composition of the welding core directly affects the quality of the weld. Therefore, the steel wire used as the electrode core is separately specified for its grade and composition. If it is used as filler metal in fusion welding methods such as submerged arc automatic welding, electroslag welding, gas shielded welding, and gas welding, it is called Welding Wire.

Electrode coating refers to the coating layer applied to the surface of the welding core. The coating is decomposed and melted during the welding process to form gas and slag, which play the role of mechanical protection, metallurgical treatment and improvement of process performance. The composition of the drug skin includes: minerals (such as marble, fluorspar, etc.), ferroalloys and metal powders (such as ferromanganese, ferrotitanium, etc.), organic substances (such as wood powder, starch, etc.), chemical products (such as titanium White powder, water glass, etc.).
