Nickel-base hard surfacing alloys Weld Overlay Plate were developed as a substitute for certain cobalt-base alloys; primarily to reduce alloy cost. Nickel provides better matrix strength at high temperatures than iron. It has similar applications to cobalt alloys basically a lower cost substitute in high temperature wear applications for cobalt-base alloys.
